The Northeast Region of the United States is the oldest region and varies from the largest city (New York City) to the smallest state (Rhode Island). There are eleven states in the Northeast. Of those states, 6 are known together as the New England states: Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont. The other 5 states are known as the Middle Atlantic States: Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania. The nation’s capital, Washington, D.C., is also considered part of the Northeast.
Directions: Today your mission will be broken up into two parts. The first part will be a map quiz on the New England states. You are to use the map at the top of the handout to answer ten questions as a group. Please turn in ONE copy with each agent’s name listed. The second part of this mission is to complete the “What State Am I?” handout on the Middle Atlantic States.
